BAI Granted Special Consultative Status with UN ECOSOC

Blockchain Alliance International is proud to announce that the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has officially granted BAI special consultative status, effective 5 June 2024.

The decision was adopted by ECOSOC by consensus, following a positive recommendation by the UN Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations on 22 January 2024. This milestone formally recognizes BAI as an organization whose mission, structure, and activities are relevant to the work of ECOSOC and the broader United Nations system.

The granting of consultative status confirms that BAI meets the United Nations’ high standards for institutional credibility, governance, and substantive contribution. It also reflects confidence that BAI will continue to engage constructively with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, and contribute meaningfully to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The application process was highly competitive, with only around one third of applicants receiving positive recommendations, making this outcome particularly significant.

The decision enables BAI to deepen its engagement with the United Nations through a range of formal privileges, including designating official representatives to UN Headquarters in New York and UN Offices in Geneva and Vienna; participating in UN sessions, conferences, and events; submitting written and oral statements to ECOSOC; engaging in consultations with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies; and organizing meetings and side events at UN premises in collaboration with UN entities, Member States, and partners. These modalities will allow BAI to more effectively contribute its expertise at the intersection of emerging technologies, innovation, and sustainable development.

This achievement is the result of the collective efforts of the entire BAI team, reflecting their dedication, professionalism, and long-term vision, as well as the strategic guidance and support of BAI’s Executive Directors. With consultative status comes responsibility, and BAI is fully committed to meeting its obligations to the United Nations, including transparent reporting and sustained engagement. Looking ahead, BAI will double down on its efforts to support the work of ECOSOC, strengthen multi-stakeholder partnerships, and advance practical, technology-driven solutions in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Blockchain Alliance International extends its sincere appreciation to its partners, supporters, and collaborators across the private sector, academia, civil society, and international organizations for their continued trust and cooperation. This achievement would not have been possible without the collective commitment, shared vision, and sustained engagement of those who believe in the power of innovative technologies to advance sustainable development. BAI looks forward to deepening these partnerships and building new ones as it strengthens its contribution to the work of the United Nations.
