Cooperation with United Nations University
On 1 August 2025, Ambassador Alexandru Cujba, BAI Executive President, conducted an working visit to the United Nations University International Institute for Software Technology (UNU-IIST) in Macau. The visit aimed to establish an initial institutional dialogue, introduce BAI’s mission and activities, and gain deeper insight into the work of UNU in Macau, particularly in the areas of artificial intelligence, software technology, and capacity-building.
Ambassador Cujba met with Ms. Jingbo Huang, Director of UNU-IIST, and held exchanges with Mr. Serge Stinckwich, Head of Research, Ms. Jaimee Stuart, Team Lead, and members of the Institute’s team. Discussions focused on UNU-IIST’s research agenda, its contributions to applied AI and software innovation, and its role in supporting developing countries through research, education, and international cooperation.
Later the same day, Mr. Cujba participated in a subsequent meeting with Mr. Cheong Chok Man, Director of the Regional Policy and Development Studies Services (DSEPDR), together with Ms. Jingbo Huang, Director of UNU-IIST. The dialogue continued on opportunities for collaboration involving academic institutions from the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Greater Bay Area, with a view to promoting academic exchanges, joint research, and regional cooperation in emerging technologies and artificial intelligence.
The meetings also explored potential avenues for BAI’s engagement with UNU-organized annual AI conferences and related initiatives, leveraging BAI’s experience in convening multi-stakeholder dialogues across governments, academia, the private sector, and the UN system. BAI welcomed the discussions as a constructive step toward future cooperation and looks forward to advancing partnerships that support responsible AI development, knowledge-sharing, and inclusive digital transformation in line with United Nations priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals.
