Blockchain Alliance International followed the work and discussions of the 2022 ECOSOC Partnership Forum on the theme “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” held at the United Nations Headquarters on February 2nd, 2022.The Forum gathered representatives of different countries, UN officials, international organizations, NGOs, civil society, academia, the private sector, and others.
BAI had a valuable experience at the 2021 Partnership Forum and observed current debates, particularly deliberations on digital technologies, with even greater interest. Some participants mentioned that relying solely on corporate-driven digital technologies without proper regulatory frameworks risk further exacerbating inequality. Moreover, many developing countries that rely on scientific and technological transfer have limited capacity to enact and implement workable policies for digital access and regulatory control. On the other hand, innovations in the IT field are advancing and changing at a high speed and cannot be regulated with outdated policies.
Ultimately, it is important to strengthen multi-stakeholder partnerships that can bring together major actors, such as governments and technology companies, listen to, and learn, from each other’s views and expectations, and coordinate their efforts in support of sustainable recovery and development. BAI will continue working with its partners towards achieving its objectives – promoting dialogue and improving coordination with the UN system and other international organizations.
