The sixth annual Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs (STI Forum) took place at the UN Headquarters in New York on May 4-5, 2021. The Forum under the theme “Science, technology and innovation for a sustainable and resilient COVID-19 recovery, and effective pathways of inclusive action towards the Sustainable Development Goals”, was convened by Mr. Munir Akram, President of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and was held in a fully virtual format.
Blockchain Alliance International followed the two-day discussions that brought together representatives from governments, UN and international organizations, the scientific and engineering communities, science and technology specialists, entrepreneurs, and civil society, and focused on lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, recovery, and solutions for global challenges. BAI learned about the top priorities for research and development, and science, technology, and innovation solutions for accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly 2 (End Hunger), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 17 (Partnerships).
Participants at the Forum noted that COVID-19 is imposing a new type of economy based on science, and supported by a wide range of technological applications and innovations, blockchain technology applications mentioned among others at the STI Forum. BAI will review all STI documents, as well as proposals and suggestions made at the Forum, and will engage its partners to contribute to future discussions on the adoption, dissemination, and practical development of blockchain applications with potential future impacts on sustainable development.
