BAI Event at the United Nations

The Forum “Blockchain Technology in Support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” will be held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 15 January 2020.

The Forum is organized by Blockchain Alliance International (BAI) in cooperation with Permanent Missions of UN Member States and UN agencies, and in partnership with ChainDD, Odaily, Bishijie, and TMTPost Group, leading global information and technology companies.

The event forms part of a broader series of discussions and debates examining the value, benefits, and practical applications of blockchain technology in support of sustainable development.

Diplomats, government representatives, officials from multilateral organizations, academia, private sector leaders, and civil society organizations will participate in the event and contribute to discussions on the critical role of science, technology, and innovation, including information and communications technologies, in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals.

Participants will also examine the use of blockchain technology in the implementation and monitoring of the SDGs, the opportunities and challenges associated with distributed ledger technologies for the global economy, and the importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships in developing innovative financial and technological solutions to advance sustainable development.

The Forum will highlight the potential of blockchain technology to provide new solutions to development challenges and foster sustained, inclusive, and equitable economic growth.

The outcomes of the Forum and future BAI activities will complement the efforts outlined in the United Nations Secretary-General’s Strategy on New Technologies, which seeks to harness emerging technologies to accelerate implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development while ensuring their alignment with the values of the United Nations Charter and international law.
